About Us
What we do....
Turner Schools Radio was launched in 2024 to work with children across the Trust. It offers Turner Schools pupils opportunities to broadcast live on-air and benefit from a range of training and experiences. The radio station evolved from the award winning 105.9 Academy FM Folkestone, our town’s Community Radio station that was based in the Academy for 12 years and won numerous awards for broadcasting and educational work.
Turner Schools Radio provides opportunities for students of Secondary and Primary age to learn to present on the radio. This improves self-confidence and communication skills, and gives them a chance to showcase their performance skills. For students interested in technology and production, there is training available to edit programmes. Turner Schools Radio broadcasts about school events, hosts interviews with local community members, charities, and businesses as well as providing information for parents and carers. We aim to be the best School Radio station in the country by 2025.
Turner Schools Radio has two studios in the Folkestone Academy, and is managed by David Sharp MBE who has worked in the radio industry and media education for over 30 years. Follow us on social media, and tune in via this website, on your smart speaker, or our dedicated App.
